We live in such a fast-paced world that life can become filled with tasks, that we don’t find time to sit down and spend time with God. Between work, errands, cooking meals, taking care of children, schoolwork, to name a few tasks, the thoughts remain, “when can I spend time with Him?”. No matter how busy life can get, we must take the time to sit down, and spend time with God. He longs for us, and as much as He needs us, we need Him!
Have you ever felt so consumed by a checklist of things to get done in a day, that you find yourself stressed, and overwhelmed? Well, to refuel and find the strength to keep going, it all comes down to our Heavenly Father! He refuels us, gives us strength, peace, and hope for the day! I truly believe that we can design our days to work around tasks, and get them checked off our list, and still find time for God at the end of the day!
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV)
When we do this, we might find that we become more productive, peaceful, and are content with our lifestyle! How is this possible, you might ask? Well, below I will share some strategies that you can incorporate into our daily lives! Will it be easy to make these changes? Probably not at first. But is it highly recommended for your spiritual health? Yes!
The truth of the matter is this: we need Him as much as we don’t think we do. He is our sustainer, refugee, and safe place. We must make time with Him happen on the daily. Otherwise, we will struggle way more than we could even imagine. Let’s choose to lean in hard friend and make time for the One that loves us the most.
Ways to Spend Time with God Each Day
The goal is to dig into His Word daily to learn more about Who He truly is to us. One chapter or even a verse a day is a great way to start. But if you can’t find the time to sit down each day purposely to read your bible or do a devotional, you can use time that you may not have thought of.
We can implement God in our lives, all day everyday if we just get creative without time! God doesn’t care if you are doing laundry while you pray to Him, He is just thankful you are building your faith and relationship with Him!
When you are out running errands, remember that all the glory goes to God! Could you glorify God at Starbucks? Sure! You could pay it forward and pay for the person behind you! You can always find ways to bless others, and glorify God, you just must be open and willing to think outside of the box!
Look at Your Schedule
Make sure you take a good look at your schedule, of what it is filled with. Some of the items on your agenda you might be able to say goodbye to and open free time for you and your family! Sometimes we say “yes” to so many things, that before we know it, we are on the go non-stop for things that don’t make us happy at the end of the day. We need to put God first in our lives, and sometimes being cluttered with activities can blind us!
A gentle reminder friend – the word “no” is a full and complete sentence. A reason or explanation is not even required. The Lord will let you know if it is truly something He wants you to put your time into or not. Check out that schedule of yours and see what can just “go away” without you feeling any guilt. I’m sure there is something you can let go of or even combine with something else.
Drive Time
When you are driving, put on some Christian music, or turn to a station that plays uplifting music. Find yourself getting into praise and worship as you drive. You might be amazed at how much uplifting music can change your mood for the day. One local Christian station does a dare, where you dare to spend 30 days listening only to Christian music. The results are amazing at how much it can set the mood and give you a little time worshiping God on your commute or shuttling around children!
Not to mention what kind of an example you will become to your children as you let the worship music flow out of your mouth even while driving. It teaches them that worship music isn’t just for church services. Worship music is for every day.
Cooking Dinner
As you go to chop up those veggies and prep dinner, consider turning on music or praying silently! It might not be your ideal time, but it is time where you can focus on prayer while you are prepping for dinner! This goes for doing dishes as well!
Wake Up Early
Even by waking up 30 minutes earlier, you can find time to read your devotional, or fit in a few scriptures while sipping on your coffee! I love getting up when the house is quiet to spend time with God. I think reading your bible or devotional first thing in the morning is a great way to fuel your day for a positive outlook on the day! Jesus and coffee are always a preferred way to get going on the right track for the day.
Grab a Movie
Find a Christian movie to watch with you and your family! Or if it is just you, take time to watch one for yourself! Christian movies always have such a great message within them! I am a huge fan of the movie Heaven Is for Real! I also sometimes go on YouTube and watch sermons from some of my favorites. They are free and you just stream them, and if you have a Smart TV you can stream to your television!
Folding Laundry
Laundry is an endless chore, and it never seems to be done. As you sit and fold laundry, again take the opportunity to pray, listen to worship music, or even stream an audio book! We live in a busy world and most of us are used to multi-tasking! I find praising God during my cleaning and laundry chore, helps it go faster, and I find peace!
This is but a short list of ways to spend some quiet time with the Lord. If you start looking for ways to include Him in more matters in your daily life the more ways that will show up to spend time with Him. He loves us so much that He will create time for you if you are willing to set aside time for Him.
May you shake that schedule a bit to see what you can do to find more time to spend with the One that loves you the most.
In His Grace,
Callie
